Hirwaun Con Club fined for license breaches
December 6, 2007
Hirwaun Con Club has been fined following a police operation responding to complaints about underage sales.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Trading Standard officers and South Wales Police organised a test purchase operation at the Brecon and Radnor Conservative Club in Hirwaun to check staff were following the law and license conditions.
The operation last October resulted in two 15-year-old female volunteers being served two bottle of Bacardi Breezer. During the evening, non members were seen to enter the club and be served alcohol, which is a breach of licensing conditions.
As a result of the work by the Community Safety Partnership, the licensees of the club were charged with three Licensing offences and appeared before Rhondda Magistrates’ Court on 19 November.
They admitted the offence and were fined a total of £300 and ordered to pay £404 towards costs.
Following the case, the bench recognised the club was a good place for the community but also stressed a message needed to be sent that underage sales and breaches of licenses could not be tolerated.
